Recycling Item Checklist (friendly reminder)

There have been a few issues with our curbside recycling recently. Here is a friendly reminder of what is and is not allowed. 

 The following are acceptable items for placing in your recycle container:

  • Paperboard
  • Aluminum Cans
  • Tin/Steel Cans
  • Books (consider donating first)
  • Junk Mail
  • Magazines & Catalogs
  • Newspaper
  • Phone Books
  • Plastic Cups - NO PAPER CUPS/PLATES
  • Plastic Canisters
  • Plastic Planting Pots
  • Soda Bottles (plastic)
  • Water Bottles (plastic)
  • Juice Bottles (plastic  waxed)
  • Milk Bottles (plastic & waxed)
  • Ketchup Bottles (plastic)
  • Mustard Bottles (plastic)
  • Condiment Bottles (plastic)
  • Shampoo Bottles
  • Detergent Bottles
  • Yogurt Tubs
  • Butter Tubs
  • Sour Cream Tubs
  • Cream Cheese Tubs
  • Deli Containers (plastic)
  • Tupperware
  • Food Storage Tubs
  • Peanut Butter Jars

Rinse food containers before recycling

THINGS NOT TO RECYCLE !!!!!!
  • Paper Towels
  • Plastic Bags of any type, including rolled plastic  (return to grocery store for recycling)
  • Styrofoam
  • Foil Paper
  • Clothing (take to one of many charitable locations within Overland Park)
  • Glass (Ripple Glass locations take a variety of different glass products along with Overland Park Recycling Center)
  • Hazardous Materials (leaded paint, solvents, cleaning chemicals - Overland Park has a free drop off location for these items.  Go to Overland Park's website for more information  (opkansas.org)
