MAILBOX UPDATE - Nov. 20, 2004

Latch problems are diminishing. We are weeding out the defective latches by installing improved replacement parts as recommended by the manufacturer. Please let us do the repair. The repairs are usually made within a day or two after notification of the problem. Temporarily, you can hold the door closed using a rubber band around the door handle and the red flag.

If there are any incorrect, missing or damaged gold house numbers on the mailbox doors, again let us know so we can correct this. It may take several weeks to order, receive and repair the numbers but mail will be delivered without interruption. Request: Placing house numbers on the side of your mailbox or post may be useful for some, however NFHA policy prefers that homeowners use painted curb or house mounted markings instead.

Contact us for any mailbox problem by emailing nfha or calling 897-9530. Remember, NFHA maintains and repairs the post and box free of charge to the homeowner even if due to vandalism or accident. When you call, please give your address and briefly state the problem (latch problem, structural damage, numbers, etc.).

Notes from the Board
We have had questions regarding the parking of cars in our neighborhood and have contacted the City of Overland Park to inquire about city codes. Overland Park has the following restrictions:

1. Cars may not be parked on city streets for more than 48 hours without being moved. HOWEVER, as a courtesy to your neighbors, we are asking everyone to park in their driveways, if at all possible.

2. Cars must be parked no less than 15 feet from intersections, fire hydrants, and private driveways.

3. Cars may not be parked in driveways so as to obstruct sidewalks in any way nor parked between the curb and sidewalk.

4. Cars may not be parked on the grass.

5. There is no limit to the number of cars parked in driveways. HOWEVER, the Board is requesting that homeowners limit the number of cars parked in the driveway to two per household (on a regular basis) for aesthetics purposes.

Nottingham Forest Homes Association will be doing major tree trimming in the neighborhood over the next few months. However, the Board has received concerns from residents that individual property owners are not maintaining their trees/shrubs (not adjacent to streets) in an attractive and well-kept manner. The Board is therefore asking everyone in the neighborhood to please assess their landscaping over the winter months and to take appropriate measures to “spruce up their yards.” We have found that trimming and/or removal of dated/dead landscaping in the off-season is much more cost-effective than in the spring to fall months. NFHA is currently using Danny’s Tree Service, 621-5328, as we have found him to be quite efficient and less expensive than other contractors.

The Board is making these requests in an effort to maintain and improve the beauty and integrity of our neighborhood!

NEIGHBORHOOD TREE TRIMMING

Due to a shortage of city funds and in order to protect the integrity and appearance of our neighborhood, the Nottingham Homes Association is in the process of developing a program to trim all trees along all "public places" within the neighborhood. Essentially, this covers the areas between the sidewalk and the street or within two feet of the street, or within the islands around the entrances to our neighborhood. Qualified contractors will be performing this work for our neighborhood. The contractor should not be trimming trees on your personal property. They will be shaping and trimming trees to keep them healthy and enhance their appearance as well as trimming low hanging branches to eliminate obstructing streets and sidewalks. If you have any questions or comments about this project, please call Jim Lewis at 814-8245.
